Malaysians are living longer. While we want to add extra years to life, it is also important to add ‘healthy life’ to those years. We want to live healthier for longer, feel well, look good, be productive, be independent, able to do things we enjoy, continue to have good quality of life and make valuable contribution to others as long as we live.

Although we age, we do not necessarily have to be burdened by many illness and functional limitations. If we can establish a good foundation for positive and healthy ageing from a young age, it helps us face the various challenges of ageing.

To this end, there are several steps we can take to lay a good foundation for ageing. From improving our diet and levels of physical activity, practice positive attitude, getting health screenings regularly, get vaccinated to protect ourselves from infectious diseases, to managing risk factors to disease, all these help us to age positively and healthily. Most importantly, the move to prepare ourselves to age well must start early.
