Elderly Health Awareness Society Selangor (EHASS)

The Elderly Health Awareness Society Selangor (EHASS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote awareness on elderly health and empowering Malaysians towards positive healthy ageing. EHASS is registered under the Registrar of Societies since 2022 (Society number: PPM-004-10-06072022).

The primary objectives of EHASS are to educate Malaysians on the concept of positive healthy ageing, promote healthy ageing practices among the elderly and prepare Malaysians towards positive healthy ageing. EHASS is spearheaded by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals comprising of geriatrician, nutritionists, gastroenterologist, diabetologist and consultant surgeon.

The flagship programme of the EHASS is the Positive Healthy Ageing Programme, an expert-driven holistic community programme to heighten the awareness of importance of adopting a positive attitude towards ageing and share practices to age healthily for pre-elderly, elderly and caregivers.

Dr. Tee E Siong

Chairman

Dr. Tee E-Siong (PhD) is the President of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) since 1996. As the President of NSM, he has led the implementation of various community nutrition promotion programmes, including chairing the National Steering Committee for Nutrition Month Malaysia since 2002. He represents NSM in several Technical Working Groups in the Ministry of Health Malaysia, including the National Coordinating Committee for Food and Nutrition (NCCFN) and the Technical Working Group for Nutritional Guidelines. Dr Tee E Siong is nutrition consultant for TES Nutrihealth Strategic Consultancy that he set up upon his retirement as Head of the Cardiovascular, Diabetes and Nutrition Research Centre of the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in February 2002, the research arm of the Ministry of Health where he served for 30 years. Dr Tee is also the President of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) where he leads the implementation of various community nutrition promotion programmes, including chairing the National Steering Committee for Nutrition Month Malaysia since 2002. He represents NSM in several Technical Working Groups in the Ministry of Health Malaysia, including the National Coordinating Committee for Food and Nutrition (NCCFN), the Technical Working Group for Nutritional Guidelines and the Nutrition, Health Claims and Advertisement of the Food Safety & Quality Division. He initiated the formation of the Southeast Asia Public Health Nutrition (SEA-PHN) Network in 2014, which actively promotes public health nutrition in the region.

Dr. Lee Hock Bee

Dr. Lee Hock Bee is a Consultant Surgeon presently working in a few hospitals in the Klang Valley. He had been a member of the academic staff Lecturer/Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya Hospital. He is a member of the College of Surgeons of Malaysia & Society of Gastroenterology, Endo Laparoscopic Society of Asia & a board member of Digestive Health Malaysia Society.

Dr. Wong Kok Choong

Dr. Wong Kok Choong graduated from University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and subsequently obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom MRCP (UK). He was trained in Internal Medicine in University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur and has served as a lecturer at University of Malaya. He later moved to establish his private practice as a Consultant Physician (Internal Medicine) in private hospitals. He was a member of the Digestive Health Advisory Board where he contributed his knowledge on digestive health by publishing articles in newspaper.

Dr. Alan Ch’ng Swee Hock

Dr. Alan Ch’ng is a geriatrician based at Department of Medicine, Seberang Jaya Hopsital, Penang. He is the Deputy Head of Clinical Research Centre and Chairman of Falls Prevention Patient Safety Committee in Seberang Jaya Hospital. He has been actively involved in elderly health promotion in community settings and has been invited to speak at various platforms such as public forum, geriatric conferences, workshops etc. He has published many articles, books and presented research findings on geriatric-related health issues including dementia, pain management in elderly, fall guidelines for hospitalised older adults. Dr Alan Ch’ng also founded the www.dondangsayang.com, a website dedicated to educating Malaysian public on issues related to older persons.

Prof. Dr. Hamid Jan Bin Jan Mohamed

Prof. Dr. Hamid Jan is a Professor of nutrition at the Nutrition Programme, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Health Campus, Kelantan. Prof. Dr. Hamid Jan has received several industry awards during the course of his career. These include the Malaspina Scholar Travel Award by the International Life Sciences Institute, USA in 2015 and Fellow Membership of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. He is also one of the committee member for the development of Malaysian Dietary Guidelines for Elderly and has been invited to speak at various platform on topic related to healthy ageing.

Datin Dr. Liew Yin Mei

Committee Member

Datin Dr. Liew Yin Mei practised as a Consultant Physician with over 20 years of experience. She is the former Director of the Heart Foundation of Malaysia and a former Consultant of the Sau Seng Lum Foundation Diabetic Centre at Kuala Lumpur. Her keen interest in Diabetes and Lipidology led to her participation in the Diabetes Care and Data Collection Project which provided an overview of diabetes management and complications in Malaysia, and regular involvement in the annual Diabetes Asia Conference and Workshops organized by the National Diabetes Institute (NADI) as a Faculty Member. She is also actively involved in health awareness and education programmes as the Medical Director with the Heart Foundation of Malaysia, antismoking programmes with the Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Committee of the MMA, and Malaysian Council on Tobacco Control (MCTC). She regularly lectures to the public and the medical fraternity.

Prof. Dr. Raja Affendi Raja Ali

Prof. Dr. Raja Affendi Raja Ali served as a Dean, Faculty of Medicine, UKM from March 2019 to March 2022. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Medicine, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Dean of the School of Medical & Life Sciences at Sunway University. He has been awarded many research grants by the University, Ministry of Higher Education, various industries and international professional society. His research interest focuses on digestive disorders; inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, colorectal cancer and gut microbiome. He is a fellow of the RCP Edinburgh, (FRCP) and American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF). Professionally, he has served as a President for the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (MSGH) from 2019-2021. He currently serves as a Treasurer for the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) and Clinical Research Committee Member for the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO). He has completed several management and leadership courses including an Emerging Stars Program sponsored by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO) and International Deans’ Course (IDC) sponsored by The German Academic Exchange. He also successfully completed an Oxford Executive Leadership Program (OELP) at The Said Business School, University of Oxford, UK.
